OnFlex HFFR TPE platform

The OnFlex HFFR TPE platform comprises five groups of compounds, which are listed below. This wide range of technologies, together with GLS Thermoplastic Elastomers’ full customization capabilities and global supply and services network, enables manufacturers to select global solutions for global customers and regional solutions for regional customers. These materials also offer different price/performance ratios for even greater options.

  • OnFlex HFFR 500 products are excellent for colored power cords and accessory cords. They offer excellent colorability and superior stability of light colors with excellent chemical resistance and flexibility.

  • OnFlex HFFR 400 products are formulated for AC and DC power cords and connectors requiring superior abrasion performance, chemical resistance and good flexibility.

  • OnFlex HFFR 300 products offer superior processing speed and balance of properties, including good abrasion resistance and wear properties. They are available in black and colorable grades for AC and DC power cords and connectors.

  • OnFlex HFFR 200 products feature robust processing, colorability, and good flexibility for accessory and power cords, and connectors. They are easily customizable for tactile properties.

  • OnFlex HFFR 100 products supply a cost-effective solution for light colored AC and DC power cords and connectors. These grades can be easily customized.

The new OnFlex portfolio meets performance and regulatory requirements and provides exceptional visual and tactile aesthetics. All grades are made without the use of halogenated flame retardants and do not contain phthalates.

OnFlex HFFR TPEs can typically be processed on the same extrusion and injection molding equipment used for flexible PVC.

GLS Thermoplastic Elastomers Introduces Cleaner, “Greener” TPEs for Medical Tubing

These five VERSAFLEX™ HC TPE materials feature U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) compliance with extremely low extractables for cleaner compounds that address health, environmental, and safety concerns.

Apprehensions about the environmental impact of plastics are causing medical device manufacturers to take a hard look at traditional polymer materials that incorporate halogens, phthalate-based plasticizers, or high levels of extractables. These five FDA-compliant materials provide customers with new choices for designing cleaner and more eco-conscious medical tubing. Choosing VERSAFLEX HC TPE, made without phthalates or halogens, can help tubing manufacturers comply with current and anticipated regulations while delivering high performance and quality.

The VERSAFLEX HC product family comprises five grades: three offer high clarity for applications such as IV tubing, and the other two are translucent and provide excellent high-temperature performance for autoclaving. All grades can be extruded or injection molded, offering manufacturers the option to use a single material for both tubing and connectors.

  • VERSAFLEX HC MT226—85 Shore A hardness—A high-clarity, flexible TPE made without plasticizers or halogens, it also offers low extractables and is stable under various sterilization methods.

  • VERSAFLEX HC MT227—90 Shore A hardness—This TPE offers the same properties as the MT226 grade at a higher durometer.

  • VERSAFLEX HC MT228—95 Shore A hardness—With the same properties as the MT226 grade, this TPE offers the highest durometer in the group.

  • VERSAFLEX HC MT307—68 Shore A hardness—Featuring exceptional high-temperature resistance, this translucent TPE can be autoclaved at up to 135°C. It is made without phthalates or halogens, and offers low extractables.

  • VERSAFLEX HC MT555—57 Shore A hardness—This material is a translucent, non-phthalate and non-halogenated TPE with good high-temperature resistance for autoclaving at up to 127 °C.

NEW HIGH-PERFORMANCE GLS TPE OFFERS PHTHALATE-FREE, PLASTICIZER-FREE PACKAGING FORMULATIONS

GLS is pleased to announce a new phthalate-free TPE in its growing specialty VERSAFLEX™ TPE product line. The new product, called VERSAFLEX CL E95 TPE, addresses recent regulations limiting the use of phthalate-based plasticizers in certain applications, and recent market demands for low extractable TPEs. It also offers water-clarity and sterilization capability.

New VERSAFLEX CL E95 is well suited for a range of packaging applications, including FDA-compliant food packaging, drug storage and delivery systems, bottles, containers, cosmetic applications, and infant care products. Other applications include a variety of extruded tubing and films, blow-molded bags, and face masks.

VERSAFLEX CL E95 TPE offers a unique balance of superior clarity, low hardness, and excellent flexibility at low temperatures as compared to competitive products. The new grade is stable under gamma and autoclave sterilization. Leveraging its well-known customization capabilities, GLS can tailor this technology suite to provide a variety of different hardnesses, custom colors, and flow properties. Following are the typical physical properties of this new material:

  • Hardness: 95 Shore A
  • Specific Gravity: 0.9
  • Tensile Strength at Break: 2500 psi
  • Elongation at Break: 575 percent
